Business is the qualification a lot of people pick when they want options rather than one job title. Almost every employer needs somebody who can run the admin, handle the accounts and keep the systems straight. The measured part of that world is clerical and office management work. Employers advertised about 9,100 general clerk roles in June 2026, and that number is down 8.5% from a year earlier. The ten year projection runs the other way though, and it has that work up 19% over the decade. The 147 courses below climb from Cert III up to Diploma, and 5 Australian providers deliver them, so there's a rung that fits where you are now.
Employers advertised about 9,100 general clerk roles nationally in June 2026, and that count is down 8.5% from a year earlier. The manager tier runs much thinner. It carried about 1,000 ads over the same month, and that figure is down 8.6% from a year earlier as well. So the field is wide where you enter it and narrow further up, which is ordinary for office work and useful to know before you choose a level. These roles also sit inside every industry instead of one, so a quiet stretch in retail or construction rarely empties the market. The decade ahead is the stronger part of this picture, and the projection further down carries it.
Ten years out, both lines rise. Right now about 300,000 people do general clerk work in Australia. Official projections move that group up 19% over the decade, and they add about 56,500 more by 2035. Managers sit at about 135,000, and their line runs up 8.4% over the decade, or about 11,500 more positions. It's worth remembering that these two occupations are only the part of the field measured this way. A business qualification also feeds sales, operations, people management and anyone running their own small business, and none of that shows up in the two numbers here. So the projection reads as a conservative view of the field rather than all of it.
The 2025 ratings put no shortage against either occupation here. For office work that's the ordinary reading, and it isn't a reason to walk away. It does set the terms you would be competing on. Scarcity won't get you hired in this field, so the qualification has to do that job instead. That's where a business credential tends to earn its place. An employer recognises it on sight, and it says you covered the admin, the compliance and the software before you turned up rather than after.
On the register the first rung is recorded as BSB40120. That is the Certificate IV in Business, which took 20,160 enrolments during 2024. The busier qualification actually sits a level below it. That one is BSB30120, the Certificate III in Business, and it drew 67,115 enrolments in 2024, so few credentials in the country pull a bigger intake. Several of the courses below teach it, including versions built around records management and business administration. Above those sit a Cert IV and a set of diplomas. You don't have to pick your ceiling now. Plenty of people take one rung, work a while, and then decide whether the next one is worth doing.

What jobs does a business qualification lead to?
Clerical and office management roles are the ones tracked in the figures here, and they're the biggest by volume. Past those it feeds sales support, operations, team leading, people management and running your own business. It's a general credential rather than a licence for one job.
Should I start at Cert III, Cert IV or the diploma?
Cert III suits you if office work is new. The Cert IV fits people already doing the job who want the qualification behind it. Diplomas are pitched at supervision and management. Providers will talk you through the right level for your experience when you enquire.
Are all of these courses nationally recognised?
The cards settle that at a glance: of the 147 listed, 48 carry a national training code, so an employer can verify exactly what you covered. Anything without a code still teaches business skills, and the code is simply what makes a credential checkable.
Can I study business while I'm working?
That's how most people here do it. Every listing runs online, and providers build them for people fitting study around a job. How long it takes depends on the provider and the hours you can give it, so ask that when you enquire. Everything was current in August 2026.
