About The Course

Turn Your Compassion Into A Career In Mental Health In Australia

Have you been through your own mental health journey and found yourself wanting to use that experience to help others through theirs?

You know what it feels like to struggle, to ask for help, and to find your way through. That experience doesn't just make you empathetic. In Australia's growing mental health sector, it makes you exactly what the workforce needs.

The CHC43515 Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work is a nationally recognised qualification that turns your story into a real career. It's built for people who've been through mental health challenges and are ready to use that experience to support others in a meaningful and professional way.

During the course, you'll build the skills to work confidently in Australia's mental health sector, including:

  • Using Your Own Experience to Help Others: You'll learn how to share your story in a way that gives other people hope. You'll know when and how to use what you've been through to connect with someone who is struggling, in a way that feels safe and professional for both of you.
  • Supporting People Through Recovery: You'll learn how to work alongside someone on their recovery journey in a way that puts them in control. That means helping them set their own goals, make their own choices, and build belief in themselves.
  • Knowing How to Handle Hard Situations: You'll build the skills to stay calm and respond the right way when someone is in crisis or going through something really difficult. You'll understand how past trauma affects people and how to support them without making things worse.
  • Working as Part of a Team: Mental health support doesn't happen alone. You'll learn how to work with other health professionals, connect people to the right services, and be a reliable and valued part of any organisation you work in.
  • Being a Professional You're Proud to Be: You'll build the values, boundaries, and cultural awareness to work respectfully with all kinds of people and build a career that lasts.

Elective units let you focus on the area that matters most to you, whether that's crisis support, alcohol and other drugs, NDIS peer support, or consumer mental health.

Before you graduate, you'll also complete 80 hours of guaranteed work placement in a real mental health setting. Your placement is arranged for you and matched to your location, so you finish the course with hands-on experience already behind you.

The opportunity is real, and it's growing. Government investment in mental health is at an all-time high, peer worker roles are being created across hospitals, community services, and NDIS providers, and there are not enough qualified people to fill them. That gap is your opportunity.

The demand is real, the roles are rewarding, and the difference you can make is profound. If you're ready to turn what you've been through into a career built on purpose and genuine connection, this is where it starts.

Testimonials

“I have been completing a Cert IV in Mental Health with Hader for the last 4 months. It has been very enjoyable with Cayan as my trainer. The Zoom classes are structured well. Cayan brings a lot of experience and makes the interactive classes engaging. The online portal to access learning materials and assessments is easy to use. Would highly recommend.” - Cameron W.

“I have found Hader Institute of Education to be flexible when it comes to study pace and scheduling, which has made all the difference for me. Every trainer, assessor, and admin staff member I've interacted with has been fantastic: always supportive and helpful. Olivia, in particular, has been incredibly encouraging, who made the process of enrolling in the Cert IV in Mental Health so much easier, which I really appreciated as I was quite hesitant at first. I’m now working towards having both my Cert IV in AOD and Mental Health, and feel much more confident. Thank you so much, Olivia, and the whole team at Hader!” - Anna H.

“Absolutely loving the Cert 4 in Mental Health. It's fantastic having a trainer like Syndi Grambau with her own lived experience, who's passion to help is evident whilst also ensuring a safe/non-judgmental learning environment. A great mix of practical application and online modules. I can tell I'll be fully ready to heal and empower clients next year.” - Seb H.

“I am coming to end of my Cert IV in Mental Health studies and have found all the staff to be extremely helpful and supportive of the students. I have enjoyed the classes and learnt so much over the past year. A special mention to Trish the Program Coordinator who is extremely responsive to any queries and genuinely wants the best for the students.” - Lauren S.
