SIR40316 is the nationally recognised Certificate IV in Retail Management. It prepares you for work as a retail supervisor. It has been the current version on the national register since 2016, when it replaced SIR40212. Employers posted about 194 retail supervisor jobs in June 2026, down 0.7% on a year earlier.
The independent signals behind this qualification are weak right now. Specifically: the official shortage list does not rate its occupations in shortage and national enrolments are falling. These are official statistics, not a promise about any individual's result.
Employer demand for these roles is holding steady. Across Retail Supervisor, about 194 jobs were advertised online in June 2026 (down 0.7% on a year earlier). Roughly 2,472 openings were advertised over the last 12 months, while 1,115 people enrolled in the qualification nationally in 2024. Enrolment counts people in training, not completions, so the two figures describe the pipeline and the market, not a job guarantee.
None of the occupations this qualification leads to is rated as in shortage on the official list. In the 2025 Occupation Shortage List assessment, Retail Supervisor is rated not in shortage.
Employment in these occupations is projected to stay about flat. Government projections put them at 52,100 workers in May 2025, 53,400 by May 2030 (up 2.5%) and 55,600 by May 2035 (up 6.8%).
People who complete this qualification tend to do better than is typical for a Certificate IV. In the latest national outcomes survey (2025), 96.9% were employed or in further study after training, against a Certificate IV median of 89.9% across 71 qualifications. 87.7% were satisfied with the training, against 87.8% typical.
Fewer people are training in this qualification than a year earlier. National enrolments fell from 1,295 in 2023, to 1,115 in 2024 (down 13.9%).
