BSB40520 is the nationally recognised Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. It prepares you for work as an office manager. It has been the current version on the national register since 2020, when it replaced BSB42015. Employers posted about 1,002 office manager jobs in June 2026, down 8.6% on a year earlier.
The signals behind this qualification are mixed, and both sides are worth weighing. Specifically: employment in its occupations is projected to grow through 2035, the official shortage list does not rate its occupations in shortage and national enrolments are falling. Employers are advertising fewer of these roles than a year ago. Across Office Manager, about 1,002 jobs were advertised online in June 2026 (down 8.6% on a year earlier). Roughly 12,528 openings were advertised over the last 12 months, while 18,420 people enrolled in the qualification nationally in 2024. Enrolment counts people in training, not completions, so the two figures describe the pipeline and the market, not a job guarantee.
None of the occupations this qualification leads to is rated as in shortage on the official list. In the 2025 Occupation Shortage List assessment, Office Manager is rated not in shortage.
Employment in these occupations is projected to grow. Government projections put them at 136,600 workers in May 2025, 141,100 by May 2030 (up 3.3%) and 148,100 by May 2035 (up 8.4%).
People who complete this qualification tend to do better than is typical for a Certificate IV. In the latest national outcomes survey (2025), 97% were employed or in further study after training, against a Certificate IV median of 89.9% across 71 qualifications. Median income after training was $83,900, compared with $63,400 typical at this level. 89.9% were satisfied with the training, against 87.8% typical.
Fewer people are training in this qualification than a year earlier. National enrolments fell from 20,680 in 2023, to 18,420 in 2024 (down 10.9%).
