UEE62220 is the nationally recognised Advanced Diploma behind electrical engineering technician work. It has been the current version on the national register since 2020, when it replaced UEE62211. Roughly 2,326 openings were advertised over the last 12 months, while 65 people enrolled in the qualification nationally in 2024. Enrolment counts people in training, not completions, so the two figures describe the pipeline and the market, not a job guarantee.
The official shortage list rates some of these occupations as in shortage in parts of the country. In the 2025 Occupation Shortage List assessment, Electrical Engineering Technician is rated in shortage in metropolitan areas; Electrical Engineering Draftsperson is rated not in shortage.
Employment in these occupations is projected to grow. Government projections put them at 10,100 workers in May 2025, 10,600 by May 2030 (up 5.7%) and 11,300 by May 2035 (up 11.9%).
Enrolments in this qualification are growing. National enrolments rose from 55 in 2023, the first year it appears in national data, to 65 in 2024 (up 18.2%).
