TAE40122 is the nationally recognised Certificate IV behind vocational education teacher work. It has been the current version on the national register since 2022, when it replaced TAE40116. About 58 vocational education teacher jobs were advertised in June 2026, down 10.8% on a year earlier.

Roughly 826 openings were advertised over the last 12 months, while 29,360 people enrolled in the qualification nationally in 2024. Enrolment counts people in training, not completions, so the two figures describe the pipeline and the market, not a job guarantee.
At least one occupation this qualification leads to is officially rated as in national shortage. In the 2025 Occupation Shortage List assessment, Vocational Education Teacher / Polytechnic Teacher is rated in national shortage.
Employment in these occupations is projected to grow. Government projections put them at 35,200 workers in May 2025, 38,400 by May 2030 (up 9%) and 42,000 by May 2035 (up 19.2%).
Outcomes for this qualification are mixed against others at Certificate IV level. In the latest national outcomes survey (2025), 94.2% were employed or in further study after training, against a Certificate IV median of 89.9% across 71 qualifications. Median income after training was $78,800, compared with $63,400 typical at this level. 85.6% were satisfied with the training, against 87.8% typical.
More people are choosing this qualification each year. National enrolments rose from 9,115 in 2023, the first year it appears in national data, to 29,360 in 2024 (up 222.1%).
