SIS30521 is the nationally recognised Certificate III in Sport Coaching. It prepares you for work as an other sports coach or instructor. It has been the current version on the national register since 2021, when it replaced SIS30519. Employers posted about 891 other sports coach or instructor jobs in June 2026, down 7.1% on a year earlier.
Several independent signals line up behind this qualification. Specifically: its main occupation is rated in national shortage, employment in its occupations is projected to grow through 2035 and national enrolments are rising. These are official statistics, not a promise about any individual's result.
Employers are advertising fewer of these roles than a year ago. Across Other Sports Coach Or Instructor, about 891 jobs were advertised online in June 2026 (down 7.1% on a year earlier). Roughly 11,578 openings were advertised over the last 12 months, while 3,565 people enrolled in the qualification nationally in 2024. Enrolment counts people in training, not completions, so the two figures describe the pipeline and the market, not a job guarantee.
At least one occupation this qualification leads to is officially rated as in national shortage. In the 2025 Occupation Shortage List assessment, Gymnastics Coach or Instructor and Swimming Coach or Instructor are rated in national shortage; Diving Instructor (Open Water), Horse Riding Coach or Instructor, Snowsport Instructor, Tennis Coach, Other Sports Coach or Instructor, Dog and Horse Racing Official, Sports Development Officer, Sports Umpire and Other Sports Official are rated not in shortage.
Employment in these occupations is projected to grow. Government projections put them at 58,800 workers in May 2025, 62,200 by May 2030 (up 5.9%) and 65,900 by May 2035 (up 12.1%).
Outcomes for this qualification are mixed against others at Certificate III level. In the latest national outcomes survey (2025), 88.8% were employed or in further study after training, against a Certificate III median of 88% across 105 qualifications. Median income after training was $46,300, compared with $54,000 typical at this level. 94.2% were satisfied with the training, against 90.6% typical.
Enrolments in this qualification are growing. National enrolments rose from 3,045 in 2023, to 3,565 in 2024 (up 17.1%).
