PUA50120 is the nationally recognised Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management). It prepares you for work as an emergency service worker. It has been the current version on the national register since 2021, when it replaced PUA50119. Employers posted about 82 emergency service worker jobs in June 2026, up 36.7% on a year earlier.
The signals behind this qualification are mixed, and both sides are worth weighing. Specifically: employment in its occupations is projected to grow through 2035, the official shortage list does not rate its occupations in shortage and national enrolments are falling. Employers are advertising more of these roles than a year ago. Across Emergency Service Worker, about 82 jobs were advertised online in June 2026 (up 36.7% on a year earlier). Roughly 899 openings were advertised over the last 12 months, while 165 people enrolled in the qualification nationally in 2024. Enrolment counts people in training, not completions, so the two figures describe the pipeline and the market, not a job guarantee.
None of the occupations this qualification leads to is rated as in shortage on the official list. In the 2025 Occupation Shortage List assessment, Emergency Service Worker and Fire Fighter are rated not in shortage.
Employment in these occupations is projected to grow. Government projections put them at 17,100 workers in May 2025, 18,200 by May 2030 (up 6.3%) and 19,100 by May 2035 (up 11.4%).
Fewer people are training in this qualification than a year earlier. National enrolments fell from 190 in 2023, to 165 in 2024 (down 13.2%).
