Mechanic's assistant jobs are projected to stay about flat. Jobs and Skills Australia projections put these occupations at 68,591 workers in May 2025, 69,155 by May 2030 (up 0.8%) and 71,498 by May 2035 (up 4.2%).
Certificate I in Automotive Vocational Preparation graduates do better than is typical at Certificate I level. In the 2025 NCVER Student Outcomes survey, 79.2% were employed or in further study after training. The typical Certificate I result is 70.2%, across 14 qualifications. 93.2% were satisfied with the training, against 88.7% typical.
Fewer people are enrolling in the Certificate I in Automotive Vocational Preparation than a year ago. Across Australia, 1,345 people enrolled in 2024. In 2025 it was 1,160, down 13.8% in a year. National data for AUR10120 starts in 2021.
