Ready to Step Up in Counselling?

You might be in a supported counselling role without the diploma. An assessor looks at your case work against the units. It suits people inside an agency rather than private practice.

Who It’s For

Why Do This Course

Match The Paper To The Caseload

You already sit with clients on personal and psychological issues. RPL lines that work against the diploma units. Nothing gets taught back to you.

Hold Your Place In The Agency

Defined counselling roles inside established services are where this sits. Agencies increasingly want the diploma on file. This is the shortest honest route to it.

Keep Your Clients While You Do It

There are no classes and no set start dates. Evidence comes from the case work you carry now. Your diary stays where it is.

Where The Skills Fit

Where These Skills Could Take You

Agencies across community services, health and youth work carry counselling roles they struggle to fill. The work is easy to picture. A first session, a safety plan, and the client who comes back because it helped.

Counsellor in an Agency

Defined and supported counselling inside an established service. The relationship and therapy units sit here.

Case Manager

Developing, running and reviewing a case from end to end. The case management unit feeds straight in.

Community Support Counsellor

Counselling attached to a broader support service. Diversity and cultural safety come up daily.

Youth Support Worker

Counselling skills with young people. Crisis response and respectful engagement are the daily work.

Roles where these skills are useful, not promised outcomes. Every role is different, and some need more study, supervision or membership of a professional body.

Why This One

What Makes It Different

Here is what stands out about this pathway.

01
Built Around Working People

Online RPL here is designed for experienced people employed in their industry. The pathway assumes a live caseload. That is what makes it quick.

02
The Assessor Makes The Call

An assessment only pathway runs where a candidate has the skills and experience. A qualified assessor decides that. There is no course to sit through first.

03
Agency Work, Not Private Practice

The experience this expects comes from defined and supported roles in established agencies. Solo practice is a different road. The page is plain about it.

04
Past Study Counts Separately

RPL covers skills from work and life. Credit transfer covers other VET awards you already hold. Your USI transcript or record of results does that job.

Getting Started

How It Works

Step one

Ask About The Pathway

Send an enquiry and a course adviser gets in touch. They outline the RPL process before you commit.

Step two

Check Your Experience

You need about two years in defined and supported counselling work. The adviser checks this with you.

Step three

Fill In The Self Assessment

You map your own skills against the units first. It shows where your evidence is strongest.

Step four

Build Your Evidence File

Portfolio, observation records, supervisor sign off and your interview. The assessor decides from there.

Good to Know

Common Questions

How much experience do I need?

About two years working in defined and supported counselling roles inside established agencies, rather than in independent practice.

Do I have to stop working?

No. Online RPL here is designed for experienced people employed in their industry. Evidence comes from the case work you carry.

How long does it take?

Between about eight weeks and six months. It mostly depends on how fast you work through the assessment kit.

What do I have to hand in?

A self assessment questionnaire, an evidence list and workplace portfolio, and observation records. A supervisor confirms your work, then you sit a competency interview.

Can I join the ACA with this?

Check directly with the Australian Counselling Association before you enrol. The ACA has no RPL pathway to membership, and applicants who received RPL as part of an award are assessed one by one. Its requirements can change at any time.

Can I set up in private practice?

This pathway is built around agency work, and the experience it asks for comes from supported roles inside established services. Private practice usually depends on professional membership and supervision, so check those requirements first.

What do I need at home?

Basic computer skills and access to a computer. Everything else comes from your workplace.

Is this course accredited?

Yes. CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling is nationally recognised, and Traxion Training is RTO 32254. RPL leads to the same award as the taught pathway.

Can I get a refund?

Enrolments are processed once a completed form comes in. Conditions of enrolment and refunds sit in the terms and conditions.

Online RPL is designed for experienced people employed in their industry, and an assessor decides whether the skills and experience are sufficient. Course advisers outline the process at the start and gather evidence that you can manage the requirements. Where that cannot be shown, alternatives get looked at with you.
