What English do I need?
An IELTS band score of 6.0, or an equivalent result from another internationally recognised exam that the Department of Home Affairs accepts.
Do I need to have finished school in Australia?
Not always. You may be exempt from the Australian Year 11 evidence. That applies if you have done a year of study in Australia in English in the past two years, at Certificate IV or AQF level 4 and above. Ask an advisor about your own case.
What will it cost me?
The estimated total is $12,500. That is an $11,500 tuition fee plus a $1,000 non-tuition fee for materials and enrolment. Police checks, screening, vaccinations and first aid evidence cost extra. Each service charges its own fee.
How much class time is there?
Two days a week of 7.5 hours. That is 15 hours with a trainer. On top of that you get 5 hours a week of set learning tasks.
How does the work placement work?
120 mandatory hours. A coordinator either sets it up with an approved host employer, or helps you find your own. Six of your weeks are placement weeks.
Do I need a USI?
Yes, before your certificate can be issued. An offshore exemption may apply to you. Admin staff can help you apply.
Is this a real qualification?
Yes. CHC33021 is Nationally Recognised Training under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The college is registered to deliver and assess it. We check both on the national training register.
Will this qualification let me work in Australia?
The qualification is what care employers ask for. But your right to work depends on your visa conditions, not on the course. Check your visa before you plan around work hours.

This course is delivered by Melbourne City Institute of Education, a registered training organisation, RTO 22172.
Teaching runs from the campus at Level 8, 250 Collins St in the city centre, backed by the college's online systems. A work placement coordinator sets up placement with host employers. The college also teaches health, community services, early childhood, hospitality and English language teaching.
