How It Works
Check The Entry Requirements
You need an IELTS band score of 6.0, or an equal result accepted under Department of Home Affairs rules. You must be 18 or over when the course starts.
Sort Your Clearances
You need a Working with Children Check to be around children. A police check, child safety training and vaccination evidence may also be asked for.
Study On Campus
Face-to-face classes backed by online learning, 20 hours a week, across 40 delivery weeks.
Do Your Placement And Finish

What English do I need?
An IELTS band score of 6.0, or an equal result from another recognised exam accepted under Department of Home Affairs rules.
Do I need to have finished school in Australia?
Not always. You may be exempt from the Australian Year 11 evidence. That applies if you have done a year of study in Australia in English in the past two years, at Certificate IV or AQF level 4 and above.
What will it cost me?
The estimated total is $16,000. That is a $15,000 tuition fee plus a $1,000 non-tuition fee for materials and enrolment. Your police check, clearance, child safety training and vaccinations cost extra. Each service sets its own fee.
How much study is there each week?
20 hours a week. That combines face-to-face classes on campus with online learning.
How does the work placement work?
160 mandatory hours. The college's placement coordinator arranges it with one of its host employers, so you are not left to find your own.
What checks will I need?
A Working with Children Check. You may also be asked for a National Police Check, mandatory child safety training by 27 August 2026, and flu and COVID-19 vaccination evidence. Start them early.
Is this a real qualification?
Yes. CHC30125 is Nationally Recognised Training under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The college is registered to deliver and assess it. We check both on the national training register.

About the College
This course is delivered by Melbourne City Institute of Education, a registered training organisation, RTO 22172.
Teaching runs from the campus at 250 Collins St, a short walk from Flinders Street Railway Station. A work placement coordinator arranges placement with host employers. The college also teaches health, community services, hospitality and English language teaching.
