Module 1: Dog Care
A practical module to take you through all general aspects of dog care. You will learn the science of dog care, as well as how to care for the practical daily needs of a dog. Designed to give you a solid introduction into the different ways to care for your dog, from nutrition and feeding, to exercise, health care, breeding and behaviour and training. You will learn how to provide effective care for those needs either as a dog owner or a professional working in the industry.
Module 2: Dog Psychology and Training
This module is designed for anyone who works with or cares for dogs. You will learn how to truly understand dogs, build a respectful and responsive relationship with dogs and better understand how to manage their health and wellbeing. You will also develop an understanding of canine psychology, which you can apply in a variety of situations, from dog handling and training, or even at home as a dog owner. Understanding how the domesticated dog has developed anatomically and physiologically will help you understand behaviours commonly seen in dogs, allowing you to provide an environment in which the dog remains a happy and healthy companion.
Module 3: Animal Healthcare
An introduction into animal healthcare, you will learn about animal first aid and how to care for the health of various types of animals. Become familiar with animal behaviours and how to recognise what is normal and what is not, to help identify signs of ill health. Learn about the facilities and procedures in a typical veterinary clinic environment, to give you a sound introduction on what to expect in these practices, from common routine health treatments to the administration of animal healthcare.
Module 4: Animal Grooming
This module is meticulously crafted for those passionate about enhancing the appearance and well-being of animals through grooming. It delves into the scope and nature of grooming, underpinned by essential knowledge in animal biology, to ensure a holistic approach to the care of the coat and skin. Students will learn specialised grooming tasks, effective handling techniques for a variety of animals, including dogs and exotic species and the critical aspects of grooming safety. The module also explores the art of show grooming, equipping you with the skills to prepare animals for exhibitions and offers insights into turning your grooming passion into a viable business. By the end of this module, you will be proficient in grooming practices that not only improve an animal's appearance but also contribute to their overall health and happiness.
Module 5: Pet Food Business
Explore the essential aspects of the pet food business in this module, focusing on the scope and nature of animal food. Learn about the processes involved in manufacturing and preserving pet food, ensuring its quality and safety. Dive into the specifics of nutrition for various animals, including canines, felines, birds, fish, rodents, rabbits and reptiles. Gain insights into identifying toxins in animal foods and the importance of regulatory controls in the pet food industry. This module also covers feed selection and diet formulation, equipping you with the skills needed for effective end-product sales in the pet food sector.
You’ll be fully supported with access to an allocated student support advisor, mentor and course consultants, who are available 5 days per week.
Assessments are an important part of your study journey as they help ensure you stay on track and meet the learning objectives of each lesson before moving on to the next. They also help your student support advisor and mentors identify where any further support may be required so that you get the most out of your course. You will learn via various methods; a combination of reading, undertaking research and watching videos. Assessments might include case studies, quizzes, and written assessments.
Upon completing the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for each certificate completed and a Certificate of Completion.
