Module 1: Tourism I
This foundation module aims to deliver a broad introduction to the nature and scope of the tourism industry, an industry that employs millions of people around the world. You will gain a better understanding of all elements of the industry, from booking services to transport and accommodation to tour guides and operators.
Learn how to better understand your client’s needs to ensure you can provide relevant recommendations specific to their requirements and travel plans. The module also delivers the fundamental operational skills required in the travel industry, from booking flights, group tours and accommodation.
Module 2: Tourism II – Special Interest Tourism
This module was designed to provide an introductory overview of the exciting emerging tourism market, Special Interest in Tourism. Discover what SIT encompasses and why there is a growing demand for this type of tourism, which caters for the specific interests of groups and individuals. Gain a better understanding and explore the four main experiences of SIT, which include Rewarding, Enriching, Adventuresome Experiences and Learning Experiences.
Module 3: Adventure Tourism
The Adventure Tourism module provides a comprehensive introduction to the dynamic field of adventure tourism, highlighting its scope and nature. It delves into the various sources and types of adventure tourism products, alongside effective management practices tailored to this unique sector. It emphasises understanding the adventure tourism customer and explores both artificial and natural locations and facilities crucial for delivering exceptional experiences. Additionally, it addresses key aspects such as ethics, sustainability, environmental impacts, risk management and the importance of insurance in adventure tourism.
Module 4: Hotel Management
This module offers an insightful exploration into the multifaceted world of hotel management, illuminating its scope and nature. It covers the organisation of the hotel workplace and delves into effective staff management practices specific to the hotel industry. Additionally, it addresses critical operational aspects including control systems, front desk management, room servicing and general cleaning. Finally, students will also gain knowledge on building and facility maintenance, activities management, and food service, equipping them with a comprehensive understanding of the various components that contribute to successful hotel management.
Module 5: Ecotour Management
In this module you’ll have the opportunity to deep dive into the world of ecotourism, a rapidly growing segment in the tourism market. This module explores the nature and scope of ecotourism, addressing key management issues and the variety of industry destinations. It offers insights into the operations of tour desks and offices, as well as the nuances of managing accommodation and catering facilities within an ecotourism context. Legal considerations and safety protocols are also discussed, culminating in practical guidance on planning successful ecotourism activities that cater to the specific interests of environmentally conscious travellers.
Module 6: Ecotourism Tour Guide Course
The Ecotourism Tour Guide module delves into the principles and practices of ecotourism, highlighting the essentials of ecological and conservation awareness. It provides an in-depth understanding of interpretive services, crucial for guiding and educating tourists in natural settings. It also includes comprehensive content on plant and animal classification, geology and interpreting both aquatic and land environments. You will learn about planning and executing ecotours, developing effective ecotour displays, and the key skills required for leading successful ecotours, making it an all-encompassing guide to becoming a proficient ecotourism tour guide.
Module 7: Farm Tourism
The Farm Tourism offers a detailed insight into the world of rural and agricultural tourism, starting with an overview of its scope and nature. This module guides you through the process of creating and managing an agritourism business, emphasising the development of farm-based tourism accommodations and activities. It covers the intricacies of managing an agritourism business, organising agritourism events, and the key elements of marketing and promoting an agritourism business. It’s designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage and grow a farm tourism enterprise, catering to the growing interest in agricultural experiences.
You’ll be fully supported with access to an allocated student support advisor, mentor and course consultants, who are available 5 days per week.
Assessments are an important part of your study journey as they help ensure you stay on track and meet the learning objectives of each lesson before moving on to the next. They also help your student support advisor and mentors identify where any further support may be required so that you get the most out of your course. You will learn via various methods; a combination of reading, undertaking research and watching videos. Assessments might include case studies, quizzes, and written assessments.
Upon completing the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for each certificate completed and a Certificate of Completion.
There are no prerequisites to complete this course. However, you must be able to read, analyse and comprehend, printed information in English, and to write statements and solve problems to complete the course. You must also have reliable access to a computer and a reliable internet connection and have basic computer skills.
