The Diploma of Work Health and Safety conveys to employers that the holder has practically demonstrated the skills and knowledge to work effectively within the health and safety management environment. Furthermore a qualification from Scope Training advocates that the learner has demonstrated the ability to apply these skills in a work context, reassuring employers of job-readiness.

Job Roles include:

Work Health and Safety WHS/OHS Manager, Work Health and Safety WHS/OHS Practitioner and Senior Work Health and Safety WHS/OHS Officer, Work Cover assessors and trainers, Work Health and Safety WHS advisor, and HR practitioner

The amount of effort and time required for this qualification is based upon your existing skills and experience (find out more on how competency based learning works). It is suggested that the course take approximately 500 hours of learning. However due to this course providers learner profile and methods by which their programs are structured this is rarely the case.  

 As a guide:

Little to no previous experience
200-500 hours

6 months or less Supervisory experience
50-400 hours

6 Months to 2 years Supervisory experience
20-100 hours

2 years plus Supervisory experience
30 minutes (through RPL) to 50 hours

After successful completion of the AQF Level 5 Diploma of Work Health and Safety further educational pathways include:

Advanced Diploma of Work Health and Safety, as well as opening the door to many other qualifications at tertiary level.

Scope Training students may be eligible to have advanced standing of up to 8 units of credit (120 points) towards Edith Cowan University’s Bachelor of Science (Y83) or Bachelor of Health Science (Occupational Health and Safety) (K97).

This course has been specifically designed in consultation with industry to provide a systematic practical approach to
managing work health and safety. Students are required to have completed the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
or demonstrate sufficient industry knowledge and skills related to health and safety.

This course is designed for students currently working within the area of work health and safety who wish to gain more specialised skills and knowledge. You will study the theory, legislative requirements and practical applications of work health and safety principles to enable you to build upon existing knowledge; provide guidance in the compliance of legislation and implementation of effective WHS management systems.

Participants are required to have completed all core units in BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent competencies.

Equivalent competencies are predecessors to the following units which have been mapped as equivalent:
BSBWHS402 Assist with compliance with WHS laws

BSBWHS403 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes

BSBWHS404 Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control

BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems

BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents

This provider’s workshops are aimed at participants who have workplace experience of health and safety systems and operations (e.g hazard report forms). School leavers will not be enrolled into this qualification.
